Sam Lee, folkesanger, promotør og animatør, platedebuterte i 2012 med albumet “Ground of its own”, nominert til  BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards - "Best album", Mercury- nominasjon og fRoots Magazines Album of the year.

Folk Conexion is a brand new initiative from Riksscenen, aiming both to promote British folk music in Norway and to initiate and encourage collaboration between the two countries.
Fiona Talkington, well-renowned producer and curator from amongst others the BBC, has assembled a collective of Norwegian and British musicians, who will part-take in the project. Each collaborative session will take place at Riksscenen over the course of 3 days, before culminating in a concert.
Our first Conexion-session will convene with an exciting mix of musicians and composers, all innovative and vastly experienced within their field. Amongst them are Sam Lee, Susanne Lundeng and Javid Afsari Rad.

Sam Lee is a British folk singer, promoter and animateur who over the course of 7 years has gone from being a fairly inexperienced singer, to releasing his 2012 debut album ’Ground of its own’. The critically acclaimed album was nominated to several awards, amongst others BBC Radio 2’s Folk Award’s “Best Album”, a Mercury Prize nomination and won fRoots Magazine’s “Album of the Year”. The album consist of songs collected through years of travel and exploration into forgotten songs of the British Isles. Sam and his band apply contemporary ideas to traditional songs, both in terms of arrangement and instrumentation.

He is most known as orchestra-leader of the Norwegian-Persian chamber orchestra Rumi Ensemble. The National Broadcasting Orchestra award jury stated: ”meeting with this composer and musician was one of last years greatest experiences for the Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. His music, and his communicative skills, took the Orchestra on a journey that few other symphony orchestras have the good fortune to embark on. By means of dancing rhythms, the use of unusual musical scales and harmonies, the orchestra was brought to Iran, among Persian ornaments and Sufi poetry singing praises to Love”
